Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1936, but are much older.

The arms already appear on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from the late 14th century. The town belonged to the State of Köln, and the arms are a combination of the cross of Köln, and the crossed keys of St. Peter, the patron saint of Köln.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
