MARIENRODE

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Hildesheim
Incorporated into : 1974 Hildesheim

Wappen von Marienrode/Arms (crest) of Marienrode
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on those of Niward Bösen, Abbot of the Marienrode Abbey from 1695–1721. The arms show in the first and fourth quarter the letter M for Marienrode, with two crossed keys as a symbol for an abbot. The second and third quarter show a heart with a broken cross as a Symbol for love and mercy.

The arms of the Abbot also showed a small inescutcheon with the chequy bend of the Cistercian order, which was not included in the municipal arms. The original colours of the arms are not known, hence the municipality chose the colours of the Diocese of Hildesheim, to which the area historically belonged.
