History: Formed in February 1939.

Origin/meaning
The lion appears in the 13th century Arms of the Earl of Cornwall who was the Lord of Manor of Benson and is therfore a link with the location. The escallop is an old device signifying pilgrimage which is relevant to the Air Transport role of the Station. The badge was granted in August 1955.
