Region : Catalonia
Province : Lleida
Catalan | Escut caironat: de gules, un castell escacat d'or i de sable obert acompanyat de 2 muntants d'argent sobremuntats d'una flor de lis d'argent. L'escut acoblat d'un bàcul de bisbe d'or posat en pal i timbrat d'una corona de marquès. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms have been officially granted on 26th April 1989.
The arms show the ancient castle of Olius (10th century), that at the beginning was the residence of the counts of Urgell (the castle contains the arms of the county: chequy Sable and Or). In 1182, the count Ermengol I gave the local castle to the monastery of Santa Maria de Solsona (symbolized here by the crescents and fleurs-de-lis). The marquis crown and the staff allude to the former jurisdiction of the bishops of Solsona, marquises of Olius.
