The new Slagelse municipality does not use arms.
Origin/meaning
The previous arms were officially registered in 1938.
The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, which is known from 1519, but the style indicates a 13th or 14th century origin. The arms show the patron saint, St. Michael with the dragon. The two towers symbolise the two churches in the city.
