Origin/meaning

The Coat of Arms was created in 1969 by the State Archives. The Base was the lesser seal of the Chapter from the 1480ies. The Stars symbolises the Virgin Mary patron of the Chatedral. Originaly the Stars was Or but later changed to Argent, to conform with the Colours of the Virgin Mary.

The Diocese has used another Coat of Arms, showing a Palm frond or a Palm frond and a Crozier in saltire. First shown on the Seal of Bishop Vincentius about 1510.
