Region : Puglia
Province : Taranto
Italian |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 20, 1935.
The arms show the mythological founder of the city, Taras (also the ancient name of the city). Taras was a son of the greek God of the sea, Poseidon, and he always travels by dolphin. All historical coins of the city, the oldest dating from 510 BC, show Taras and the dolphin.
