Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 28, 1938 and confirmed on May 13, 1960.

Kragerø received city rights in 1666, but was still dependent on Skien until 1842. The city used a seal which was identical to that of Skien. The galley in the arms is derived from the fact that Kragerø since 1666 had to supply a galley with five guns to the King.
