Official blazon

Shield: Per bend Gules and Vert, a bend wavy Argent, to chief a taro leaf and a fleur-de-lis in bend Or, issuing from base the silhouette of the Twin Towers Sable; on a canton of the fourth, a cross Gules surmounted by a saltire Azure
Crest: That for regiments and separate battalions of the New York Army National Guard: from a wreath Argent and Gules, the full rigged ship "Half Moon" proper
Motto: Vanguards of the empire

Distinctive Unit Insignia, Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per bend Guels and Vert, a bend wavy Argent, to chief a taro leaf and a fleur-de-lis in bend Or, issuing from base the silhouette of the Twin Towers Sable; on a canton of the fourth, a cross Gules surmounted by a saltire Azure. Attached below a Gold scroll, doubled and inscribed "VANGUARDS OR THE EMPIRE" in Green.

Origin/meaning

The red portion of the Shield symbolises former role as Field Artillery. The Taro leaf indicates service in Hawaii during the Spanish-Armerican War. The Fleur-de-lis indicates service in France during both< World Wars. The Colour Green symbolises the present role as Military Police. The Twin Towers honours the Battalion's members that served in the Towers at time of the Attack. It also symbolises the members of the Battalion that was deplyed to New York City to perform security at the site. The Crosses in the Canton symbolises Revolutionary War and Civil War service of the eariler component units.

The Coat of Arms and Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 7 April 2006.
