English | Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a buff shield, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border, a buff demi-mustang issuing from base shaded black detailed maroon. Attached above the shield a maroon scroll inscribed “WESTERN” above “HILLS” in buff letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width.
Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting a of gold shield bearing a maroon open book highlighted gold surmounted by a gold lamp enflamed and shaded maroon, all below the arcing inscription “LUX ET VERITAS” in maroon letters. |
Origin/meaning
Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Maroon and buff are the school colors. The mustang is the school mascot which reflects the intense loyalty and strong will of the cadets.
Shoulder Loop Insignia: Maroon and cream (gold) are the school colors. The open book represents the academic curriculum of the school and the lamp reflects the cadets’ burning passion for knowledge and enlightenment through contact with school, community and country.
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and the Shoulder Loop Insignia was both approved on 16 July 1996.
