Former province : until 2009 Oulu
Additions : 2007 Kuivaniemi
Official blazon
- (1966) Kulta-sinikat koinen kilpi; yläkentässä sininen orsivaaka, ala kentässä reunoihin ulottuva kultaverkko.
- (2007) Hopeakentässä aaltokoroinen vasen pieli ja hylje; molemmat sinisiä.
Origin/meaning
These are the arms of Kuivaniemi, continued by Ii in 2007.
The previous arms were officially granted on February 9, 1966.
The division of the shield is taken from the noble Natt och Dag family, who owned the area in the 17th century. The scales indicate that Ii has been a centre of trade for a very long time. The base shows a fishing net, symbolising the importance of salmon fishing.
