'''Saint Anthony the Great''' (c 251– 356), also known as <strong>Anthony the Abbot</strong>, <strong>Anthony of Egypt</strong>, <strong>Anthony of the Desert</strong>, <strong>Anthony the Anchorite</strong> and <strong>Father of All Monks</strong>, was an Egyptian Christian saint  and the prominent leader among the Desert Fathers. Anthony lived in Alexandria  for much of his life.   
Saint Anthony was a very popular saint in early medieval times. His is often shown with a pig, one of his symbols. His main symbol is the [[:Category:Tau cross|Tau-cross]], which is more often used than the saint itself.
