ASSOCIATION DES CHABOT
Official blazon
Arms : Gules a chabot fesswise on a chief Or a fleur-de-lis Azure between an escutcheon of the arms of the province of Poitou (Gules five castles Or) and an escutcheon of the arms of the province of Perche (Argent three chevronels Gules)
Motto: ALLER AU FOND DES CHOSES
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 15, 2012.
The fish, known as a chabot in heraldry, refers to the Association’s name. The fleur-de-lis represents France, the homeland of the Chabots, as well as Quebec, where the family settled. The shields on either side of the fleur-de-lis are those of Poitou (left) and Perche (right). Poitou was the birth place of Mathurin Chabot, the first common ancestor arrived in New France in the 1660s and settled on Île d’Orléans in 1665. Perche is birth place of Marie Mésange, whom Mathurin Chabot wed in New France in 1661.
The motto means “Get to the bottom of things”.
