Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on

The arms show a castle with two towers; these represent the former castles in Fresenburg and Düthe. The linden tree, a symbol of justice, symbolises the medieval court in Düthe. The three branches symbolise the three villages of Düthe, Fredenburg and Melstrup .

The base symbolises that the Fresenburg castle was surrounded by a moat. It also refers to the Ems river and the Dortmund-Ems canal.

The colours are those of the State of Münster, to which the area belonged from 1252-1803.
