The crescent as symbol for the village is known since 1830, when it appears (horizontally) on the local seal. The seal shows the arms covered with a crown. The crescent was also used in the 19<sup>th</sup> century as the village symbol on border stones. This was to represent the many water mills in the area since the 14<sup>th</sup> century. The municipality however, wanted the old symbol.
