 Bensberg developed around one of the castles of the Counts of Berg and received certain freedom in 1575. Bensberg became a city in 1947.
 The arms are based on the seal of the town from the 16<sup>th</sup> century and were granted in 1927. The arms show in the upper part the arms of the Counts of Berg. The deer symbolises the (former) large forests in the area.
