AVENCHES

Canton : Vaud
Additions: 2006 Donatyre; 2011 Oleyres

Armoiries de Avenches

Official blazon

De gueules au buste de maure de profil au naturel, tortillé d'argent et vêtu d'azur au col d'or.

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the oldest seals of the town, which showed a man's head. Only on the seal of 1564 the head was changed into a Moor, probably based on some legends regarding Saracens in the region. The arms have not changed since.
