Kasendorf received market and city rights in 1328. The oldest known seal dates from the early 15<sup>th</sup> century. The seal already showed the above shield. The quartered right half shows the arms of the Hohenzollern family, Margraves of Nürnberg, to which the town historically belonged. The cat is a canting symbol for the older name of the town, Katzendorf (or cat-village).In the 1920s [[Otto Hupp|Hupp]] showed the left field red:
