FRANCESCO GIOVANNI SCUTELLARI AJANI
Born: December 16, 1742
Deceased: July 181, 1826
Abbot of San Pietro Apostolo di Guastalla, 1792-1826
Titular Bishop of Ioppe, 1793-1826
English | blazon wanted |
- (it) Troncato di rosso e d’argento, al palmizio di verde, attraversante, sostenuto da una tartaruga al naturale; sul tutto una fascia scaccata di rosso e d’argento di tre tiri.
Origin/meaning
The turtle is a canting element as in ancient times the sea turtle was called "biscia scodellaja" (bowl-snake), due to the similarity of the carapace with a bowl (in Latin: scutellam), for example the Italian traveler Lodovico de Varthema, in his "Itinerary" on his travels in the East, in the first half of the sixteenth century calls the sea turtles "biscie scutellaie". Even today in the Parmesan dialect the turtle is defined as “bissa scudlèra”.
