Veringen itself developed around the castle of the Counts of Veringen, who ruled the town until 1280. The oldest seal of the town dates from around 1320 and already shows the lion and the deer antler. The lion is likely the lion of the Habsburg family. The antler is, contrary to most arms of Württemberg, derived from the arms of the Counts of Veringen.
