===Origin/meaning=== | |||
The village Willstätt came into possession of the Counts of (Hanau-)Lichtenberg in 1288. They built a castle in the village. The village had a (lower) court from these times on until the 18th century, when it was moved to [[korkKork]]. The oldest known seal of the village dates from 1444, but it is probably made at the end of the 14th century. It shows arms with a cross and a swan's neck. The swan is derived from the arms of the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg. The present arms, which were granted in 1901 were derived from the oldest seal. In some later seals a wolfs-hook was added to the arms, the hook probably being a village-mark (used to mark village boundaries). | The village Willstätt came into possession of the Counts of (Hanau-)Lichtenberg in 1288.
