The arms were granted on July 15, 1981. | |||
The pentagram or star is taken from the arms of the medieval Lords of Schönecken. They were a branch of the Counts of Vianden and built the local castle. Their arms were either one silver shield in red, or three small shields, which were combined in a star shape by Richard von Schönecken in 1388. The star and shield thus refer to the Lords of Schönecken. | |||
The chief refers to the Schönecken castle, now largely a ruin, in the village. | |||
The division line indicates the merger of the two villages Schönecken and Wetteldorf in 1960. The colours are those of the State of Trier, to which the area historically belonged. | |||
