Origin/meaning
The arms were granted by the administrator of the Cape Province on August 12, 1966, and a registration certificate was issued by the Bureau of Heraldry on September 3, 1969.
The charges in the arms were derived from an unheraldic pseudo "coat of arms" which the municipality had adopted in 1938. Bredasdorp is the centre of a sheep-farming and wheat-growing area, which is shown by the ram's head and garb.
The Cape Agulhas lighthouse, which appears as the crest, is situated in the district.Literature: -
