Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1949, and registered officially in 1974.

The crown stands for Queen Fredrika Dorotea Vilhelmina, from whom the place was named; she was married to King Gustavus IV Adolphus. In the arms of the city there are also elements from the Sami culture.

Literature: Nevéus and de Waern, 1992
