DROBETA-TURNU SEVERIN
District/county (județ) : Mehedinți
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 30, 2007.
The bridge signifies the bridge of Apollodorus of Damascus. The lion reminds, on the one hand, of the old insignia of the Roman legions, and on the other hand, of the fact that Severin once belonged to the Oltenia Region.
The tower evokes the medieval fortress of Severin, and the cross placed above the crescent is reminiscent of the battles against the Ottoman Empire.
The mural crown with 7 crenellated towers means that the locality has the rank of municipality-county residence.
