Shield: Azure, on a chief Or a disc Vert charged with an acorn of the second stem up.
Crest: That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Army Reserve: From a wreath of the colors, Or and Azure, the Lexington Minute Man Proper. The statue of the Minute Man, Captain John Parker (H.H. Kitson, sculptor) stands on the common in Lexington. Massachusetts.
Motto: Dare your best.

Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, on a chief Or a disc Vert charged with an acorn of the second stem up. Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "DARE YOUR BEST" in Green letters.

Origin/meaning

Blue is a color traditionally associated with Infantry, the original branch of the organization. The gold chief displays the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 87th Division.
