The arms reflect the local legend about the former Treigiai castle, from which the town originates. Once numerous enemies besieged the castle; defenders dressed a three-year-old horse, hung jingles on it, and during night time released it to the enemy camp. The scared horse started running. When the enemies saw and heard a mysterious scary creature they fled in panic, considering it being a demon. Proud for their smart setup, the inhabitants of castle called themselves "treigiai" ("three-years-horses"). | |||
