The arms were officially granted on March 12, 2003.
The arms symbolize the famous Calvary (the name of the town means "Samogitian Calvary"): the chapel refers to the 19 chapels of the Way (the front picture is of the chapel on St. John's Hill), the triple mountain refers to the hills where all chapels are located, and the silver strip refers to the Cedronas rivulet.
