Additions : 1975 [[Newton-Stewart]], [[Stranraer]], [[Whithorn]], Wigtown; Districts of Machars, Rhins, Western Kirkcudbright<br>
In 1975 a larger Wigtown District was formed, comprising the area of the former [[Wigtownshire]]. The new district took the arms of Wigtownshire, which were granted on July 21, 1975.
Incorporated into : 1996 [[Dumfries and Galloway]]
