The lower half is based on the arms of an Irish Holohan family used here to symbolise the family name of the bishop. The chief of the lower half, represents peace and serenity. The annulets (or rings) symbolize faithfulness, while the red in this context represents fortitude. The colour blue represents loyalty and truth.
