The arms were granted on May 16, 1972.
The first arms show the local patron saint, St. Lawrence with a fleur-de-lys, taken from the arms of the Knights von Greverode, who in medieval times originated from the town. Greverode is the old name of the town.

The fleur-de-lis is taken from the old arms of Greftath, the colours from the arms of Oedt. The cross is the cross of the [[Köln (State)|State of Köln]], to which the present municipality belonged.
