The arms show a bull's head for the Werle Estate, to which large parts of the district belonged from 1229-1436. The griffin's head in the base refers to the State of Rotock, to which most of the district historically belonged. The two crosiers refer to the many former monasteries, especially Doberan Abbey, which had many possessions in the distric. | |||
