Arms: Argent three Bends wavy Azure overall between three Astronomical Signs of Mars Or a Chevron Gules thereon a Fleur de Lys also Or on a Chief dovetailed Gules a Garb of Wheat between two Hanks of Cotton Gold.
Crest: On a Wreath Or Gules and Azure out of a Mural Crown Or masoned Gules charged with four Annulets Sable and between two Torches issuing Azure enflamed proper a Stag rampant Gules and gorged with Lace proper attired and unguled Gold.

Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted in 1983.
The three wavy bends on the shield are the three main rivers in the district, the Trent, Derwent and the Erewash. The chevron is taken from the arms of both Long Eaton and South-East Derbyshire. The small fleur-de-lis is the symbol for the St. Mary and symbolises Dale Abbey. The three symbols of iron symbolises the heavy industry in the district. They are taken from the old Ilkeston arms. The chief shows two hanks of yarn as symbols for the textile industry. The wheatsheaf symbolises the agricultural villages in the district.
The crest shows two flaming torches for the local industry, and are taken from the old Long Eaton arms. The stag is part of the arms of Nottingham and Derby and symbolises the position of the district between these two cities. The stag wears a lace collar, which symbolises the traditional lace making industry. The small rings, amulets, on the crown and symbolise steel-making and engineering.
