Neuenburg was a free Imperial city from 1219-1250 and again from 1274. In 1331 it was sold to Austria and remained Austrian until 1806, when the city became part of Baden. | |||
The oldest known seal dates from 1261 and already shows the bend. The oldest known sources show the arms as above, but in the 19<sup>th</sup> century the opposite colours were often used. In the 19<sup>th</sup> century often two lions were used as supporters, but these were not granted in 1973 when the arms were officially granted. | |||
