Origin/meaning

The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The maple leaf represents the hospital’s status as a Canadian institution, while the open book refers to the teaching component of the hospital’s school of nursing. The cross and the enflamed heart are religious symbols, indicating that the Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception operated the hospital. The “M” refers to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The lamp is a symbol of nursing. The arms were officially granted on February 15, 2021.
