CHENNEVIÈRES-LÈS-LOUVRES

Département: Val-d'Oise

Blason de Chennevières-lès-Louvres/Arms (crest) of Chennevières-lès-Louvres
Official blazon
French D'or à la branche de chanvre feuillée de sinople; au chef tiercé en pal aux I et et III d'azur à la fleur de lis d'or et au II de gueules au lion d'argent.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on December 21, 2007.

Chennevières owes its name to the cultivation of hemp (cannabis in Latin) that was once practiced on its lands, hence the hemp plant in the lower half of the arms. The lily flowers refer to the Pays de France region, in which the village is situated. The lion refers to Eliza Dusson de Bonnac, goddaughter of Louis XVI, wife of Alexander de Saint Souplet, descendant of the former lords of the village, who became mayor of Chennevieres in December 1807.
