Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 29, 2002 to the Breerivier/Wynland local municipality.

The municipality takes its name from an extensive mountain range (part of the Cape Folded Mountain system) that is the principal feature of its topography.

The area is known for its fruit production, which is symbolised by the bunch of grapes and the cornucopia. The grapes also indicate part of the former name Wynland (wine-land).

The wavy partition line represents the many streams that flow out of the kloofs (gorges) along the mountains.
