Origin/meaning

The strait in which the ship is located is undoubtedly the Golden Gate, which lies between San Francisco (located on a peninsula) and Marin County (located on an opposing peninsula). The object is on the dexter side is a telegraph device, because Telegraph Hill is a prominent landmark in San Francisco.
