PIEKSÄMÄKI
Region : Etelä-Savo
Former province : 1997-2009 Itä-Suomi (until 1997 Mikkeli)
Additions : 2007 Pieksänmaa (2004 Jäppilä, Pieksämäen maalaiskunta, Virtasalmi)
Official blazon
- (1951) Mustassa kentässä kultainen vinoristin ja apilaristin yhdistelmä.
- (2007) Mustassa kentässä kolme hirsittäistä, hopeasulkaisa kultavasamaa alatusten.
Origin/meaning
The arms are those of the former Pieksämäen maalaiskunta municipality, continued in 2004 by Pieksänmaa and from 2007 onwards by Pieksämäki.
The previous arms were granted on October 24, 1951.
The town owns its importance to a junction of the major railway lines, which is symbolised by the cross. The leaves indicate that the town is the major town of importance in the area.
