KUUSAMO
Region : Pohjois-Pohjanmaa
Former province : until 2009 Oulu
Official blazon
Punakentässä hopeinen juokseva poro, jonka yläpuolella kultainen revontuli.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 23, 1959.
The arms show the northern lights (Aurora borealis) as a symbol for the northern position of the municipality. The reindeer is the main animal kept in Lapland, and symbolises that Kuusamo once was the southernmost town in Lapland.
