KORNBERG BEI RIEGERSBURG

State : Steiermark
District : Feldbach

Wappen von Kornberg bei Riegersburg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 13, 1993.

The name of Kornberg does not have anything to do with corn. Kornberg is an old castle, overlooking the broad valley of the river Raab, and a look-out it was. "Choren" is an old word for watching, looking out. The castle was an outwork for that mighty fortress, the Riegersburg. In lieu of that watching capacity, a representation of a tower was included in the arms.

In the 13th century, the castle was held by a family von Chorenberch. They bore a canting arms, to wit: for arms the wreath of straw, decorated with wheat-ears (Kornähren).
