BARANOWO
Province: Mazowsze
County: Ostrołęka
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially adopted on June 2, 2013.
The hawk is taken from the crest of the Jastrzębiec family clan, to which which the Baranowski family of Baranov belonged. The stylised letter B represents the Kurpie people from the region. The green field refers to the Green Forest in the municipality, whereas the gold refers to bees and beekeeping, a traditional activity of the Kurpie.
The first, non official, arms for Baranowo date from the early 20th century. The arms were based on the arms of Ostrołęka, showing the same eagle, but on its chest a small shield with the arms of Jastrzębiec.
In 2009, the municipality commissioned new arms, which showed a wavy silver bend with at the top the Jastrzebiec arms and in the base a symbol for the Kurpie. The river was to symbolize the dairy industry in the village. The arms were not approved by the Heraldic Commission and in 2012 a new design was made. This design was idential to the current arms, with the addition of the gold monogram of Frederick Augustus I in the base. These arms were also not approved, but the design without the monogram was considered acceptable.
