Origin/meaning

The arms are granted on January 9, 1528 by Emperor Ferdinand III and Empress Claudia.

In 1928 they were re-granted by the Italian government. The arms show in the lower part the arms of the De Medici family (who ruled the area at the time) and in the upper part the arms of Austria.
