SOMERNIEMI
Region : Varsinais-Suomi
Former province : Länsi-Suomi (until 1997 Häme)
Incorporated into : 1977 Somero
Official blazon
Sinisessä kentässä hopeinen haaruristi, jossa kolme punaista ruusua asetettuina 2 + 1.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 6, 1954.
The arms show a letter Y, for the old name Ylistaro. The roses are taken from the arms of the Munck af Sommernäs family, which had their estate in the village in the 17th century.
In 1946 a first proposal for arms was made, showing an elk on a hill. These were not adopted.
