KROSNA

County : Alytus
Municipality : Lazdijai

Arms (crest) of Krosna
Official blazon
Lithuanian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 21, 2002.

Both elements in the arms have more than one meaning: the crane means cranes nesting in nearby Zuvintas reservation, it also symbolizes caution and vigilance, and it symbolizes the Lithuanian partisans (including some women) who died in the battle at Krosna in 1946 (one of most painful defeats of Soviet forces during the Lithuanian guerilla).

The halberd symbolizes St. Matthew, patron of the local parish, it also refers to the fight of the people of Krosna against the occupants.

The green field refers to the richness of the local nature.
