Municipality : Mažeikiai

Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 15, 1792 and again on August 4, 1998.
The arms can be explained only partially: the royal crown refers to the fact that Viekšniai was a royal town, but the meaning of stars is not known (there's a hypothesis about some relations with the arms of the noble Karpis family, but it has no sufficient arguments).
Earlier, on October 25, 1725 other arms were granted: a triple hill, coming pars pro toto from the arms of the then elder Martynas Leopoldas Sciuka. It is unknown, if that arms was ever used.
In the early 20th century a variant with 6-pointed stars and open crown was used.
