The tower is clearly the tower of the city hall, which was built in 1608/1610. The seal and arms thus can not be older than 1610. The meaning or origin of the camel is not known. It has been explained as a kind of canting arms, Tim-el-kam or Kam-el-tim (Kamel =camel), or as a symbol for the Islamic threat two centuries earlier in Austira. The latter, however, is unlikely as the Turks never reached as far as Timelkam.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 24, 1975.

The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, which is known since 1647.

The tower is clearly the tower of the city hall, which was built in 1608/1610. The seal and arms thus can not be older than 1610. The meaning or origin of the camel is not known. It has been explained as a kind of canting arms, Tim-el-kam or Kam-el-tim (Kamel =camel), or as a symbol for the Islamic threat two centuries earlier in Austria. The latter, however, is unlikely as the Turks never reached as far as Timelkam.
