Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 3rd December 1987.

The traditional arms of the town show the double-headed eagle of the counts of Pallars (with the escutcheon with straws inside, that is canting:the straws are named "palles" in Catalan), because the local castle (11^th century, shown too on the arms) belonged to this county, later marquisat.
