UNGHENI (MUREȘ)

District/county (județ) : Mureș

Stema Ungheni (Mureș)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 3, 2016.

The three towers represent the Recea Orthodox monastery complex (unique in Europe through the interior paintings entirely made of Murano mosaic) and the 10 old churches in the city area.

Birds with bread in their beaks are the symbol of St. Elijah, who was fed in the desert with bread by a raven. Saint Elijah is considered to be the patron of aviation, and the symbol also refers to the "Transylvania" International Airport in Târgu Mureș.

The ears represent local agriculture.

The wheel and the flames symbolize the richness of the subsoil in methane gas resources.

The mural crown with three crenellated towers means that the town has the status of a city.
