The arms were granted in 1960.
The arms show two crossed swords for the 'Army Road' (Hæervejen) a historical road though the area. The crown refers to the fact that in medieval times the Danish Kings were crowned at the Urnehoved Ting as well as the current use of Gråsten castle as a Royal summer residence.
